The first house that was built in the area is still standing in Pomona known as La Casa Primera de Rancho San Jose. Ygnacio Palomares built this house out of Adobe. During these years the City of Laverne was a field crop farming community.

 

It later began to plant Citrus Trees which was very profitable. The city became known as Heart of the Orange Empire. The citrus Industry was strong until after world war II. there are only 2 orange groves left in the city today.  one is on the La Verne Mansion and the other on Heritage Park. The city of La Verne is only 2 kilometers of land. The city is located 30 miles from LA.

 

The City of La Verne is home to The University of La Verne know for its exceptional education. Some of the other educational institutions are Bonita High School, Lutheran High School, Damien high School and Calvary Baptist School.
